Truck Dockboards - Types
There are three basic types of truck dockboards. The type you choose will be based on the factors that you feel are most important to your application and use; durability, weight, and cost.
All welded steel truck dockboards provide:
.
- Highest durability for longest life in the most demanding and high cycle applications.
- Heaviest construction requires the use of the forklift truck for placing, positioning, and removing the dockboard.
- Lowest cost in material and fabrication labor.
.
All welded steel truck dockboards can be manufactured to the highest capacity ratings and always are equipped with fork lifting loops or lifting chains.
Aluminum truck dockboards with bolted-on steel curbs provide:
- A considerably lighter dockboard that can be positioned, if necessary, by two people without the use of a forklift truck.
- An economical alternative to the all steel dockboard; only about 10% more expensive.
Aluminum truck dockboards with bolted-on steel curbs may require periodic re-torque of side rail mounting bolts.
Aluminum truck dockboards provide:
- Lightest weight.
- Good strength and durability in normal (moderate duty cycle) applications.
Aluminum truck dock boards are the highest cost alternative due to material cost and fabrication labor.
